Mary Elizabeth Rider, MSW

Mary Elizabeth Rider is the grantwriter with the Social Work Evaluation Program. She holds a Master of Social Work degree with an emphasis in Planning, Administration and Management. Ms. Rider has clinical and program expertise in health, mental health, developmental disabilities, substance abuse, senior services, child welfare, domestic violence and sexual assault, and traumatic brain injuries. For SWEP, Ms. Rider has prepared grant applications and secured funding agreements with state and federal agencies. She has worked as principal of her own consulting business since 2002.

She worked with the Alaska Mental Health Trust for seven years as program officer. She was responsible for program development and grant management, managing up to three-quarters of the Trust’s projects. Also at the Trust, she coordinated the development of the state’s comprehensive mental health plan. Prior to her work at the Trust, she fostered advocacy systems for people with developmental disabilities at the Governor’s Council on Disabilities & Special Education. Additionally, she worked with the Rural Alaska Community Action Program first as director and then as evaluator on substance abuse prevention projects. Ms. Rider has both authored and co-authored several articles pertaining to the area of health and social services financing.
